And what prey tell are we supposed to do now if we begin to suffer from depression, anxiety or stress??

Go to the doctor and risk having our hobby and prized possessions confiscated?

No, people will instead sit at home becoming more depressed without access to the help they need and with access to firearms.

That’s not making the public safer.

In the situations your mention then the right for you to be granted a firearms certificate should be risk assessed, even if the outcome is guns lodged for 6 months then a reassessment, but I do know where you are coming from, what if you are suffering from work place stress which doesn't impact on you outside, or even tension headaches what will happen then?

Mental health is an illness and it comes in many guises but health should be put before sport.

Seeing as how it is such an onerous task for GPs that takes them away from their patients, legal gun owners are supposed to be their patients too, then how many new doctors will this charge employ to meet the need caused by checking a file and writing a letter. None I suspect and this will just add to the practice's profit.

I am 100% certain that a computer program could check through every record of every FAC/SGC holder for any relevant conditions in a matter of hours, if not minutes. Anything 'relevant' could then either be flagged to the GP who could then reasonably expect a fee for 'examining' the report or even go directly to the FLD.

But pretending that a search program as dreadfully complex as the ones we used to design in school in IT lessons in the 90's doen't exist, how long does it take a GP to check a certificate holders medical history? 5-10mins to scan through for the vast majority? About the same length as an appointment then. So i'll tell you what, once every 5 years i'll ring to make an appointment around renewal time and the day before its due i'll cancel my appointment, that way the GP didn't lose any time checking my records? Or if it makes them feel better i'll sit across from them while they have a look through my records wallhead

I don't trust my doctor to get anything right. I once made the mistake, when asked if I had ever smoked, of answering I'd puffed a few ciggies behind the bicycle sheds at school about thirty years back. I've since looked at those scant medical records they have online now and I've been labelled an 'ex-smoker'. I didn't even inhale - just hung out with the cool kids because a girl I fancied was among them.

If you say anything to a doctor it will be taken down and used as evidence against you - probably when the government think it's 'a good idea' to sell your medical records to insurers and local authorities for 'the public good' (and a nice little earner to make up for the shortfall in taxes that the likes of Ebay, PayPal, Google, Amazon etc don't feel like paying).

Sod that. I’ve seen what people have had to go through to get their property back. You can’t just put a time limit on when someone is ‘better’.

What if the sport is part of their health? It’s certainly relaxing for me, probably the most stress less time in life is when I’m shooting.
