If I get time Ile track the wording from the firearms act, it basically says any person with any gun can be called upon to end uneccecary suffering acting as an "agent of necessity"...........where this conflicts with established BDC best practices and the law on use of minimum calibres I think it's mostly overlooked as your doing the beast a favour and using a suitably heavy duty enough bang......after all 32acp is not a deer caliber rifle round but is ok for dispatch, does this get mentioned within the law of calibers?

I once saw an badly injured deer taken down at 90 meters with a bolt action .44 magnum, killed it stone dead on the spot,not legal calibre but effective enough,I'm pretty sure the law allows for it.

I have always been bemused by the whole deer legal ammunition thing.

Seems strange to me that the military engage human sized targets with .223 FMJ ammo yet the same ammo in the much more effective expanding variety is considered too weak to take a deer "humanely".

Surely ammo has moved on since the legislation was drawn up ? Better propellants, better projectiles etc mean that its more lethal ?

Laws are not written around good sense, normally they are a compromise forced by vested interests and people with limited knowledge of the subject, of course once inacted they become "set in stone" until the next merry-go-round starts
Scottish Roe, for example must be weak and sickly beasts, as they can be taken with .223 whereas the butch English Roe need a minimum of .243 to drop them !
