Rifle case foam

#1 Post by Sabertooth »

I want to change the foam padding in one of my rifle hard cases to custom fit my rifle (cut exact to shape) and was wondering if anyone has done the same and what they used and who supplied the foam?

Rifle case foam

Chap I know has done it twice.

Once he swapped the single foam layer for two layers and cut the shapes in the top one with an electric foam wand.

Second time he got some pick and pluck foam and did it that way, it’s not as neat but you can reconfigure it whenever.

We live in a town with a national foam manufacturer down the road luckily.

Pelicase sell replacement foam set for their cases online.

https://peliproducts.co.uk/accessories/foam.html

If you don't have a pelicase, I suggest you ask the manufacturer

I literally cut mine last night. If foam is cheap enough I’d probably do it again. Found a very sharp Stanley blade worked well for the most part. But I would like it neater... maybe

Have a look at these https://www.easyfoam.co.uk/

I bought some foam from them a couple of months ago to fit out a gunbox. Delivery was quick and the price was right.

If you do it again, draw out on the underside, the opposite of how you want them laid out... then you won't get the pen outline after you've cut them out.

As an aside, I would strongly recommend having both muzzles pointing the same direction so you have a "safe side" of the case when opening it...

Yup its a good bit of advice regarding the underside, i realised this half way through. Although the stanley blade method is not as clean cut on the bottom due to the nature of the short blade.

I did try to get mine facing the same way but it just would'nt work. so for now its Rifle Right - Pistol Left.

I got mine here;

https://www.efoam.co.uk/?gclid=EAIaIQob ... gKMAfD_BwE

Much more reasonably priced that getting it from an actual case maker/anything to do with shooting! I bought mine in 3 layers, one to serve as the base to protect from the bottom side, one to actually cut the shape of the gun, and a layer of 'egg-box' foam to stick to the underside of the case lid.

I think it worked out at just over £20 per layer and now i have the top and bottom layers in the case if i want to change it for different gun outlines I just need to buy the middle layer :good:

When you cut it if you do, do the reverse method (so you don't get the marker outline, make sure you hold your knife/cutter PERFECTLY perpendicular to the foam surface or you can end up with a MUCH larger/smaller hole on the other side and the thicker the foam the hard it is to maintain it!
