When Merseyside Police seize anything , they have a nice simple policy .

1 . Tag with numbered evidence tags .
2. List details of the property along with evidence tag number .
3. Provide property owner with receipt if property owner is present.

All the above are supposed to be done on site at the place of seizure .

Guess what ….......................Still no receipt for the firearms , ammunition and de-acts seized.

As I said , this is how Merseyside Polce do things (normally) . Other forces may do things in their own way .

The legality and ownership would have been evident as the club FAC was present and the RFD register was there .

That wouldn't necessarily prove legal ownership. They are only held legally if they are kept in accordance with the details given on the FAC. And by the sounds of it guns stored in the wrong cabinets and unauthorised access etc.... they may take that as grounds to say they are held illegally. Unlikely this is the case but plausible.

This bit from the Home Office letter should be ringing bloddy great alarm bells , “The police checked the list of members which you provided and noted over 100 members who do not appear on the police's records.”

Merseyside Police do not do tick box while drinking coffee visits. If anything they are probably on par with a GCHQ security screening .

So how is it that between the January inspection and the raid in June over 100 members would appear to have joined APC but the police claim no knowledge of them .

But obviously 280 members now have to be protected. The first thing I would think all should do is join the NRA. For nothing more than this will satisfy the "club" element of the good reason for owning the firearms on ticket. This would also give breathing space so that people could find available clubs.

It would seem that APC members just cant join the NRA that easily as they are no longer members of a HOA club.
You will need to undertake a one day membership assessment and possibly extra training.

So they will have to book a date (hopefully in the next 4 weeks) drive down to Bissley , maybe with an overnight stay , and complete the assessment .

I get a feeling there will not be a rush to join the NRA !.

He must still be working as a CEng though as he's not on the retired list.

Why and how do you make that assumption. Once granted, an individual can keep Chrtered Engineer status for life provided fees are paid and there is no "malpractice" or "criminal offence".

....but that means CPD to be yearly submitted, which is why, if actually retired, you go on the retired list, pay your reduced fees and don't have to submit CPD.
As I said he doesn't appear to be on the retired list, well with one organisation at least.

That doesn't surprise me. There could be sensitive information in the police records that he doesn't have access to...
