It may have been a consideration amongst some of the deciding committee, but I think their overriding concerns would have been profit based - What sports can we win or drop to disadvantage other countries and what sports will bring in the crowds?

In the end it's all idle speculation because I can't see them coming out and saying what the real reason was...

By removing shooting the organisers hope that there will be more medal opportunities for the host nation elsewhere and better publicity and interest overall.
I would say its more to do with anti shooting sentiment that any thing else.

I happy to swim against the stream on this one.

To make the Games profitable they need medals and public interest and participation and IMHO shooting isn't going to provide either for England, and so (with some anti - shooting bias thrown in for good measure) it gets dropped from the program.

BTW, for Alan D, a Sandgroper is slang term for a Western Australian...the clue is in the Flag! ;)

I assumed it was some form of far flung colonial slang, either Antipodean or Scottish. :good:

Just for starters, England have medalled in 8 out 8 fullbore shooting events at the last 4 games, including all 4 available golds at the last 2 games, not to mention numerous medals in other shooting diciplines.

Oh no, you can't have tickling!! Tickling can lead to trust issues and is an uninvited invasion of personal space. How could you suggest that we teach children that tickling is ok! You Monster!!!!!

Sadly, although I am being sarcastic, there are plenty of people out there that believe tickling should be illegal! lol

And did anyone try for tickets to the Shotgun events at the 2012 Olympics? The events were a sell out ...

So, replicate that in Birmingham and there will be plenty of money.

Look at other sporting events recently - Womens international football and cricket for example - swathes of empty seats, so how can they be justified at teh CG if there will be empty stadia?
