Typical Zero for Ar-15 in CSR

#1 Post by Hunterboy »

As a new shooter, I was just wondering what distance people typically zero their rifles to for a CSR competition at Bisley?
Do they vary from match to match ?

If you have a 100 yard zero, you can use a simple ballistic calc to get you on the target at distances out to 500 and down to 25 yards.
Most people dial in at each distance, say the first practice is at 300 yards, set your elevation up ~3MOA from the 100 yard zero (assuming 5.56 milsurp).
Obviously depends on the scope, some have build in BDC so you never need to adjust it but it won't be as accurate as dialing for your load/rifle combo.
There are usually a few sighting shots to get bang in the middle but that's not guaranteed.

I know it's approx, and it's assuming you have a 5.56 rifle shooting 62gr but the following helped me when I started.

Yards / Elevation MOA
100 = Zero
200 = 1
300 = 3.5
400 = 6
500 = 10

+1 What he said.

Once you have zeroed at 100, I'd say use that for all matches or it will just get confusing.

Have you entered a match yet?

No, not yet . I did a practice day at Bisley several months ago, and have only just purchased a rifle. I am hoping to enter in the next few weeks after practicing with the rifle.
