Explosives license

#1 Post by bradaz11 »

Just got my renewal through, and got a new explosives license, it's slightly different though, it now shows a weight limit of 2kg
It doesn't say anywhere if it's just explosives (black powder) or includes shooters powders, but I obviously have a lot more than 2kg of thoseImage

Just renewed mine for BP.
The amount on licence reflects your physical storage.
My box can only hold max of 3 x 500gm so my licence shows 1.5kg.

It arrived yesterday, so not yet. Will do on Monday.
Shooters powders don't need to be stored in a box like holy black I thought.
I thought we were allowed a certain kilo limit by virtue of fax, and then the explosives ticket expanded the general holding limit?

There was talk a few years ago about requiring shooters powder to be stored in the same way as BP. Not sure where that idea went though.

Nonsence - The amount on the licence is determined by the licencing authority and can be anything up to the maximum allowable as per HSE guidlines. My certifcate has a line struck through Section 7, so I can have the maximum allowable, even though I do not have the
storage capacity for that maximum. I need to be able to store all that I do have in a proper way. So if I wanted to increase my held amount, I'd simply buy another box and buy more BP.

The licence ONLY applies to the powders as identified in Section 3 of the certificate.

Why is it nonsense?
My explosive licence reflects the storage facilities I personally have for blackpowder which is 1.5kg.
My cert at section 7 specifically states "1.5kg" and at section 6 kept within "authorised wooden box".
If I wanted to store more I would have to prove I have facilities to do so.
So - to use your words - "The amount on the licence is determined by the licencing authority and can be anything up to the maximum allowable as per HSE guidelines."
Seems pretty straight forward to me!

Firsly I didn't mean to cause you offense, so I appologise if my post did so. Perhaps my use of the word 'nonsense' was a little harsh.

Following on from your reply

Section 6 - The explosive may be kept 'AT' ... this is for location, NOT what they should be kept 'IN' - see bradz11s above - it does not, and should not, specify storage container. Your licencing team are incorrent to put this information in Section 6 (but we all know that different constabularies seem to do as they please).

Also, if your box has 30% headroom above a 1kg container then you could hold 3 kg (don't fall into the 500g 'advisory' limit trap)

Mine has no limits. Sections 6&7 are crossed out with my address in Section 8.

I can only presume that my home is not classed as a Licensed Store as per

"Alternative B, paragraph d&e"
