I did the same and was told by Avon & Somerset that it was only a free 141 when having one that's been sold removed and you could have the slot changed and then only within 28 days of the sale. They let me off the charge in the end though.

Funnily enough, thats exactly the scenario I was doing with my one, was part'exing my 30-06 for the 7.92x57 with a RFD, not that they mentioned any time limit between the two, but in fairness to the Met, they also let me off the 20 quid as well (as long as I didn't do it again)

I always deliver and collect my FAC by hand, as I consider it a security risk sending it in the mail and if there is a problem on collection, you're in the right place to get it sorted.

Be thankfull you can do that.

In fairness to the idea of "different interpretations", the table of fees on the Met Police website is 100% clear that the £20 fee applies to adding firearms.

but surely that isn't a 1-4-1? that is a sale? slots are given for a gun, if you sell that gun, the slot disappears and you have to apply for a new slot? it's only 1-4-1 when you are changing an unfilled slot isn't it?

or do I have it wrong, and am due 3 free 1-4-1s on recent sales?

You can "1-4-1" your certificate to change the caliber from one that you have to another, free of charge. Likewise, should you sell a firearm, you can "1-4-1" the authority from the firearm disposed of, free of charge. There is no fee to conduct either of these variations. Likewise, there is no time limit from disposal to applying for a "1-4-1" and it remaining exempt from charging.

A £20 fee is required for a variation when you wish to add to the numbers of authorities you have already certificates for.
