I had a muzzle brake on my Saiga AK folder as standard. Ugly thing about three inches in length.
At Bisley I always had people moaning about its existence on the rifle (although it didn't seem to have any detrimental effects to anyone either side of me). I used to unscrew it as it's easy to depress a locating tang and remove by hand. This left the big chunky threads exposed though - I had a thread protector made up in the States last visit. To be honest off or on doesn't seem to make a noticeable difference to me. But then I shoot my Mossie M44 wearing a T shirt and that doesn't bother my shoulder either.
