Parker Hale aperture sight insanity

#1 Post by Mauserbill »

Hello
I have been looking for some time to find a decent and reasonably priced Parker hale 5a aperture sight for my No1 Mk3 Enfield
I was absolutely flabbergasted to see on eBay a not so special example just go for the astounding price of £380.00 this did not even include postage , oh to turn back the clock when you could buy these at shows and fairs for a fraction of that cost.

How much you want to pay and how much you “have” to pay can sometimes have a gulf in between. A rough No4 seems to be North of 600 quid these days and an unissued No4 £2K!!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

Absolute Madness, when i bought my P-14 ten years ago for £400 from a well known northern gun shop it came with a free Parker-Hale 5b sight.

Sounds like I let the aperture sight from my Swing go a bit too cheaply
Careful now/that sort of thing

I think these came out in around 1925 - that's a lot of years past where existing examples became well knocked about and lost. They're virtually an antique and not something you can just pick up now days.
I have the 5C - I think they were going for about £250 last time I looked.

I spy a nice No 1 Mark 3, with a folding adjustable rear peep sight... possibly a BSA.. for £550.. looks like a bargain compared with the PH 5a...
