what exactly are assisted openers, reading the bill it says opened by a mechanism, i have 2 knives one has a hole in the blade which i can open one handed with my thumb and the other one has a knob on the blade which again can be opened one handed are these now band ?

My Kershaw Ken Onion speed safe collection are all spring assisted openers, most of them cost me around $80 and now I have to hand them in and get £20 to stay on the right side of the law.
I bought these so long ago that I have no receipts, so I'll have to accept the couple of hundred quid I'll get on surrender instead of the actual cost or replacement price.

Anything where you need to manually open the blade from closed to locked is still legal, although not to carry without valid reason.

I'm hoping screen grabs of websites selling them is evidence of their value. failing that, maybe someone like mikeknives could value them for you?

I see Batons are also on the list.. but they mention the spring loaded ones. What about the "Asp" type that the police carry, that open with a flick of the wrist...is possession of those now banned ..?

Yes, they are called friction lock batons and are specified in the Act.

I checked, and can't fine a single person lining up to turn in a knife in NYC.
They even stopped, "Stop and Frisk" checking for CC firearms, which in NYC have been a no no since 1937.
Checking, can't locate anyone there turning in firearms neither.

Non Constitutional laws were made to be ignored.

And all the the New Yorker's I know, come pretty well armed for war.:)LOL

I hate it when “media officers” highlight even the most benign as some sort of success. Which is why the force is then ridiculed. How much reputational damage is done by ill conceived blather?!
