Re: Airgun question
Conversion of an air rifle to pistol would not be an issue as far as I believe, provided the energy is under 6ft lb. The are not licensable items and thus not controlled except in FAC versions.
Prometheus Hunter Black - 9 grain
H&N Field Target 9.56 grain
Gamo Raptor Power 9.9 grain
However, just about to post and did another quick search and the following link came up:
https://www.airgunshooting.co.uk/news/g ... -1-6027438
That refers to 9ft lb with a 14.3 grain Crosman Accupell - so, yes it could "present problems".

Re: Airgun question
In any event lead wasn't banned from solder for household plumbing until 1999 - so unless the ninnies have a house built after that date, exclusively only visit friends with modern houses, eat and drink at modern built restaurants and pubs they've been exposed to water that's flowed from pipes held together with the stuff. And not suffered at all from that.dromia wrote:Lead free pellets are an oxymoron.
Where the hell is this irrational lead phobia coming from?
If you are serious about poisoning, pollution and damage to the environment, then I would stop using anything with an internal combustion engine before I would worry about a few lead pellets FFS.
There is no sense of proportion in the world any more.
As a kid I used to melt led and pour it into moulds to make legions of model soldiers. I must have handled millions of lead pellets, bullets, balls, fishing weights over the years. I've handled plenty of scrap lead, cast my own pistol balls, and done my own lead flashing. Not to mention inhaled the stuff over the course of some thirty-five years as a shooter. No ill-effects thus far. I must try harder.

Re: Airgun question
I completely agree with most of what you have said, can't say i'd want to inhale it though... Still don't want to scatter the pellets all over my vegetable patch, but thats my choice. If I had a pellet catcher or on a range or whatever different story...Dark Skies wrote:In any event lead wasn't banned from solder for household plumbing until 1999 - so unless the ninnies have a house built after that date, exclusively only visit friends with modern houses, eat and drink at modern built restaurants and pubs they've been exposed to water that's flowed from pipes held together with the stuff. Anyway, I have my new parts now and a tin of old pellets that came with it so I hopefully I can give it a try this week, just need to print some targets off.
Re: Airgun question
Had my first go at shooting the airguns today after replacing the breach seal. Was actually really good fun!
The target with the 3 holes I was just messing about with distances, that was 5, 10 and 15 meters, did another at 20m after the photo and was about the same distance down again, literally just at the bottom of the card. Looks like it's dropping about an inch for each 5m, does that look about right? I have ordered a new mainspring, piston O ring and buffer washer after reading advice on forums but not sure it needs it.
My shots at any distance were always lower and to the left so guess I need to adjust the sights, I'll have a read on the internet and give it a try.
Thanks for the help so far!

Re: Airgun question
Looks like you're up and running - certainly need to raise your rear sight a little and move it right a couple of clicks - Plenty of adjustment on those sights so you should be ok. As for dropping an inch every 5 meters, it's difficult to tell - Remember the pellet goes in a trajectory, not a straight line. Even if it was perfectly sighted in for 20 yards it would still print low at very short range, might be 1/2" high at 15 yards and exactly dead on at 20 yards.
Re: Airgun question
Thanks, if the weather is nice I am hoping to get out on Monday so will have a go at adjusting the sights. I'll pick a distance I like shooting at then try and zero them for that. I want to try shooting some longer distances as well, guess I can just keep moving back until I miss the target! Someone has let me borrow some knock down and spinning type targets as well so that should be fun to try.1066 wrote:Looks like you're up and running - certainly need to raise your rear sight a little and move it right a couple of clicks - Plenty of adjustment on those sights so you should be ok. I'm going to try and change the spring as I have already bought the new one, I can see reading online I will need something to compress the spring so will have to try and knock something up. I am a bit worried that once I take it apart I won't get it back together.
Re: Airgun question
The meteor is very straight forward to strip - no fancy ball bearing in the trigger mechanism to worry about A spring compressor cobbled together with an old "G" cramp does the job.Steve12345 wrote:Thanks, if the weather is nice I am hoping to get out on Monday so will have a go at adjusting the sights. Cheers 1066, had a look online and can see exactly the type you mean. I have got hold of an old g clamp so will try and do this week.
