I’ve not shot a full power 303 yet but that didn’t look like a great experience for a new shooter.

Blame the idiot that gave him a sporterised and scoped SMLE to shoot at no real distance instead of a proper rifle.

I do, One of the guys came to my club with a really old air rifle last week known for crunching peoples fingers, he gave a few people a go with it and explained to hold it away from the trigger when priming it, most of us tried to prime it with our fingers in a bad spot but we were all stopped from hurting ourselves and we had a good time.

Been there, done that with a Westley Richards chambered in .404 Jeffery......not quite as bad as Mr Martin's but still have the scar to show for it.

The instructor wasn't paying due care to Guy the novice. You could see exactly what was going to happen and it should have been corrected.

1st time shooting fullbore I shot a nice mosin nagant that a club member owned.
about 10 rounds later I moved onto the clubs .308 (a scoped bolt action of some sort) and I got a pretty awful scope bite from it and had to break out the first aid kit. (and when we finished the shoot a trip to the minor injuries unit who glued it up).

I hadn't been the 1st to do this on the rifle nor was I the last. As it turned out the previous owner had been in a wheelchair and as a result the scope was setup further back than normal and no one ever adjusted it. This was all back in 2012 and the rifle got replaced a couple years later (not sure if the scope ever got moved before it was sold). now they have a couple of .223 bolt actions as well as anew .308 which is better to use when taking new shooters to full-bore.

I imagine the comments were less than friendly on the instructors ability and they decided to remove it!
