House selling viewings and gun cabinets

I moved last year, I did all the viewings as I didn’t want strangers in the house if I wasn’t there (agent more than happy to let me do them) Cabinets were in the divided integral garage, impossible to miss them. So i just said that my hobby is target shooting. Every one of the of the viewee’s took an interest. Like many things in life the antis are very vocal but don’t really represent the views of the vast majority of the public.

I was more worried I'd be a target for theft rather than someone having a go at me for being a shooter.

This is a very interesting question, I had two safes and an ammunition safe in my office (small bedroom) fitted to the wall, which were easily seen if entering the room. Accepted that you should know who is in your house, but there are trades people, etc. I have now moved / added safes to be hidden within the fitted wardrobes, which I do feel is a better solution. I had to give up my wardrobe space for the two ammunition safes and convince my wife to give up her wardrobe space for two nine gun cabinets (just need to convince her about the six gun cabinet - it won't take up too much space dear!). Although, this does show who had the most wardrobe space in the first place :)

Mine is bolted into an alcove in the smallest room in the house. I have hung a curtain over the front of the alcove so I would imagine if anyone was viewing they wouldn't bother pulling the curtain back....

I just covered mine with a dust sheet and put a couple of boxes in front

It's an interesting dilemma and interesting to see the different attitudes towards it.

On the actual listing we're just not going to have photos of my office, but when taking viewings I will be here (again, don't like the thought of anyone in my house if I'm not there).

I think the amount of shooting equipment that's not in the cabinets would negate any attempt to cover them, A shelf full of gun bags/ gun boxes etc, magazines and scope boxes. To most people it's just going to be clutter and they'll be none the wiser, I expect only other shooters will see things and instantly know what they are and what they're for.

I think in the next house I'll make more of an effort to have them concealed inside false wardrobes or something, but never had a problem until its come time to sell the house and I actually have to show people into my man cave, not have the door closed!

In this day and age having strangers poking around you property, whether accompanied or not is worry.

The listing photos can give more than enough of a shopping list for burglars, even if you take firearms out of the equation. It also gives a layout so there would be fewer surprises once inside.

I had both internal and external cameras in the house so I'd be notified if one of my lovely neighbours was in the process of robbing my house whilst I was at work. The crackheads at number 17 were notorious for taking any chance they could to rob the rest of the street. Anyway, I saw no reason to shut the cameras down when people were viewing so I was able to see if anyone paid special attention to my stuff in the office.

As you can probably guess from my comment about my neighbours, moving was a pretty important thing so I needed to get my house sold (and eventually took a considerable loss to do so...). It was uncomfortable having randoms walking round, but necessary.
