Absolutely - this sounds like utter arbitrary bo**ocks, and the sort of thing BASC etc. might like to have a word about
Security check.

Re: Security check.
There are three different levels of security that the police use. Have a look at the Guide on Firearms Licensing Law, page 160 onwards.

Re: Security check.
Lever357 is spot on...google Guide on Firearms Licensing Law. Scroll down the righthand side that is in blue to Chapter 18. This details the levels of security required for the number of firearms held. As usual in all Government documents much of is gobbledegook but the details are there to be found.
Basically the act requires a Police Monitored alarm to be fitted to the property, which is classified as Level 1 for 12 or more firearms. Level 2 requires a self monitored alarm system for less than 12 firearms. Level 3 is for 1 or 2 firearms, no alarm.

Re: Security check.
Re-reading the thread, I completely misread some of it. My apologies.
The security requirements and different alarm systems for different quantities of firearms have been in the security handbook for quite a few years. The way I interpreted some of the comments was that this was a ‘new’ requirement. Hence my previous post.
Must stop multi-tasking as I’m terrible at it!

Re: Security check.
I have had more than 12 firearms for many years. In the 50 plus years that I have had an FAC I have never been told that I must install any type of alarm or security. I have been told security is my responsibility. I do have multiple cabinets and a house alarm system but no remote monitoring. I suspect one of the higher ups in the pecking order is trying to make his presence felt, hence the review of those with higher numbers of firearms.

Re: Security check.
It may be worth contacting any shooting organisations you are a member of. After a spate of shootings in Liverpool the other year when an innocent girl was shot in her house, the police contacted FAC holders who had more than a certain number of legally held firearms and asked them to surrender some. THis was quickly squashed when BASC got involved

Re: Security check.
I have not been asked to reduce my collection, just advised that I would not get approval to add more. As it happens, I had already decided that I would be unlikely to buy any more as I have run out of space. The only one I was thinking of getting is a .577 Snider. I could have the rifle as an antique and not fire it. I already have a Martini-Henry as an antique. I wonder what they would say if I wanted to add the Martini to my FAC to shoot it? I would not be adding to the number of firearms held as I already have it, just adding to the numbers on my FAC. I might just do that.

Re: Security check.
Adding an additional slot on a section 1 certificate for a Martini rifle already owned by virtue of the section 58 obsolete calibre exemption will be seen as expanding your collection. You could own a dozen+ identical rifles chambered in an obsolete calibre but only hold one on a section 1 certificate and the law will only recognise the one held on the certificate as a licenced section 1 firearm.

Re: Security check.
So - does the number of "firearms" counted as held include shotguns?
