If I found a P14 in good condition, I'd keep it original. However, if I found one that had already been re-barrelled and generally played around with, adding a thumbhole stock would just be an extension of the process. I find I shoot better with a thumbhole stock.

The first full bore rifle I ever owned some 30 years ago was a P14 in 7.62x51 fitted with a Shultz and Larson barrel it was stunningly accurate, even then I was playing around with them I made a scope mount that fitted into the rearsight recess with a screw and wedge, and then adapted a 7.62 L4 LMG bipod to fit onto the forestock rail.
They are worth the money being asked at the moment because they are no in vougue so to speak (same as .22 Martini's)

Well oomans, I've found a P14. It was originally a Winchester made .303 version that has been rebarrelled for 7.62 x 51 with a heavy, hammer forged, Enfield target barrel. Judging from the superb condition of the bore it has seen very little use. It has a nice PH rear sight. The bad news is that it currently sits in a home made target style stock that may originally have seen life on an Anschutz but now looks as though it has been fodder for a beaver. The price reflected the condition of the stock rather than the bore so I purchased it. I'll have no qualms about dropping this in a thumbhole stock.

Good news!
Was it a local bargain?

Very good news and I see Steve has posted to day about the blank stocks he is selling.

We need some before/during/after pictures and BTW there is nothing wrong with Beavers, have you never read Shaggycoat the Beaver?

There are 2 P14s for sale at my local gun shop. 1 of which was formally mine, I traded it for a modern varmint rifle, both P14s are 7.62 cal, anyone wishing details of the shop need only ask
