Gallery rifle cheek piece

Having made an alteration to the butt of my marlin, I'd like to try putting a cheek piece on it - I want to try something tempory for the moment, and have heard of other shooter using all kinds of improvisation and materials...

..has anyone tried this? Any recommended method?

Also, would duct tape perminantly mark the stock?

Wooden stock? how much do you need to raise it by? Christel used an elasticated knee pad to see how she got on with raising the cheek piece. She has retired to bed however if you PM her she may still have the other one spare somewhere. I must admit it worked very well

Yes wooden stock.

Without getting the rifle out, I say it needs raising about 1 to 1.5".

did the same on my AI before I built a dedicated cheek piece, it gave me perfect cheek weld and I was really chuffed as I headed off to the range to test it, right up to the moment I went to fit the bolt

I've got some of that piping; which is why I asked about the duct tape - If you don't mind me asking, how long have you left the tape on the stock for?

Months,although i really need to redo the whole thing as the foam has collapsed a little.

Just remember when changing the tape before it sometimes leaves a few sticky bits behind but they just rubbed off no probs.

I didn't want to ask, how you knew it was ok if the tape had been on for months until you removed it ( :-P ) - thanks for clarifying that
