Later this year I'll be converting my butchered Ishapore 2A1 to 45 ACP (I plan to have it proofed to at least 45 ACP +P, but hopefully 45 Super levels)

Give http://greenrifle.com/ a call or e-mail he has one of his early conversions for sale. If you're in a hurry, call, as he can take a little while to reply to due to other work and family commitments.

I'm pretty sure I still have a photo of that particular rifle he has for sale - I could PM it to you if you're interested.

Hi Sandgroper,
Have you seen any of the 'Delisle Carbines' that Gordon has done? Or the .357 conversion he did for Chris? I still think he's willing to do some more conversions as time permits but their main business keeps them very busy.

I'm also hoping to do a silenced Mauser .45 build in the next year or so, time permitting; I'm part way there, got the doner rifle/action in bits.
Never knew Mauser were in the kebab business :G :run:
If only - I might visit the kebab shop more often!

here's my british record holding .44 bolt action ruger all weather in stainless, with moderator, weighted butt, tuned trigger, i shoot a 240 gn expanding bullet with a load of 8.6 gns of american select, i love it and would not give it up for anything.

i use it mainly for putting down deer, when i get called out by the rspca,i also use it for long range carbine comps.......

So I've kicked off the build of this .45 acp rifle, a bit speculatively since I've not got an FAC yet, but fingers crossed it all goes through as planned

Both the FAC and the rifle will take around 3 months so I'm hoping come early June I'll be able to give it a spin. Of course if I don't get granted the FAC then there will be a .45 up for sale in the Classified section :o

It'll be based on a Rem 700 LH action, 10 round magazine, stainless match barrell, rails, custom stock and may be a mod too (if I can find one reasonably priced for a .45). Just hope the mags make it over from the USA without too many problems.

I must be mad, just don't tell my wife

10 round magazine? What kind are you going to be using then?

If you're thinking about different barrel lengths, this chart will be helpful. Between 12" (legal minium) and 18" you only gain 50fps or so! So if I were you I'd go with a 12" for better harmonics, lighter weight and easier handling with a can on the end.

As for suppressors, Reflex and Brugger & Thomet both make them in .45 (the later are supposed to be great).

I've found these UZI magazines in .45 manufactured by ProMag which look okay to me + not too long. I've got 4 on order from a site in the states with one of them hopefully shipping next week.

I'd also found the Ballistics by the inch site and had thought that 16" might be best (highest fps anyway) but I'm digesting as much as I can about the .45 and loading it for longer (100m) range shooting.

My thought on the magazines is, will they fit the receiver? Are UZI magazines in 45 ACP single or double stack?

As to barrel length 16 inches seems to get the best out of 45 ACP - as you pointed out. I haven't decided between 14 or a 16 inch barrel - it won't make that much difference with normal ACP or +P loads but it might, for any 45 Super loads I shoot. Speaking of which, if you're loading for longer range shooting, how about getting it proofed for 45 Super (as I will be)?

The 45 Super is a stronger 45 ACP case designed for higher pressures, so a 16-18 inch barrel might be better?

HTH :-P

I'm pretty sure the mag is single stack, the overall length is 5 11/16" and 3/4" wide which to me at least suggests it must (hopefully) be single stack. When I gave the dimensions to the rifle builder he didn't seem overly concerned with the size and said it could be done.

Good idea about proofing for .45 Super, do you know where can you get brass for that in the UK?

The idea of proofing for .45 Super seems sound ! That way you could fire anything from .45 Super for longer range down to standard sub sonics if you wanted to go the quiet, moderated route...

The site you link makes for fascinating reading and has some videos of the testing as well. A good find and very well worth a look.
