First c/f Rifle advice.

Hi everyone, am on the hunt for my first c/f rifle I have been given .222 on my ticket with the option to 1 for 1 for a .223 depending what I find I have a max budget of 450-500 and any advice would be appreciated.

It'd help if you said what you want to use the rifle for! Target shooting or hunting? And of those two, which of the many sub-sections? IE - what type of target shooting? Or what would you be hunting?

I would hazzard a guess from the .222 it would be for Fox. It will be down to personal choice as there are a lot available in both calibres and not really that much between the two. Personally I prefer the .223.

Choice wise, in that budget a second hand Remi 700 or a Howa 1500 would get you up and running - also consider one of the CZ's

Hi, yes I suppose if I had given more info It would have been help so here goes. It's for Roe and Fox that are coming in around the farm just now and will preferably be a lighter rifle as were on a hill croft most of my shooting is off the back of the quad bike or the occasional trip out the back of the hill on search of a Roe for the freezer. Other than that maybe the odd shot at paper when I get 5 mins. Rgds, Gordon.

They can shoot roe with a 22cf in Scotland - think it is min of 50 gr and 1,000 foot pounds.

.222 as previously stated legal for roe in Scotland and should be legal in E&W also if it wasn't for some prats in the BDS swaying the arguement when the law was changed.

Add to that a min velocity of 2450 fps as well.

All three minimums (bullet weight, velocity and muzzle energy) have to be meet in Scotland.

Hopefully found a nice Tikka M590 Deluxe threaded and it looks in brilliant condition!

The Tikka is as good as any sporting rifle needs to be. However, please bear in mind what has been said about the legal requirements re bullet weight, Muzzle energy and muzzle velocity with regards to Roe in previous posts.
