Best place to buy an AK47 straight pull.
I'm looking to buy one of these to shoot at Bisley. Any ideas where to get one and what calibre to go for? Thanks.

If you keep your eye on the club sales boards / internet forums and classifieds like guntrader/gunstar then you should get one in 7.62x39 for around £200 - mine cost that last year then I spent another £100 on some bakelite mags, drum mag and wood furniture.
loads of shops advertise them for around £595 (russmilitary have the new Romanian ones in at that price), ammo is very very cheap at £15 per 100 or a couple of hundred for a 1400rd crate :)
If you get a Saiga then knock up a bullet guide so you can use genuine AK mags (tenner each)
Best £300 I have spent

Second hand or if you want new http://www.rusmilitary.com/html/firearms_ak101.htm
Go for the 223 version, but they're getting more and more expensive. I got mine from Rusmilitary for about £400 in 2006(?), now £685. PX'd it 4 years later for £300 (along with the extras I acquired).
If you happen to find one with a 1 in 7 twist try 62gn ammunition first.
I'm pretty sure all the new ones are now 1 in 12.
HTH.

Last I looked 7,62x39 was approaching thirty quid/100. It was a lot cheaper once upon a time and I still remember buying 54R of GBP13/100 however it was not pleasant to shoot.

Its all coming in from the Netherlands, and there it's 115 EUR per 1000 rds (£93) over the counter without a trade discount so you are getting ripped off somewhere

Crikey, if that's what they're going for I might put mine up!

I know a man with a 5.56 AK straight-pull, he's having a whale of a time trying to sort out a handload that shoots without tumbling. I think it originated from Izhmash originally, no idea where he bought it from over here though.
