Have you fired it yet with the moderator? I have an AI .338 and bought an ASE moderator for when I have others shooting next to me to cut the blast from the muzzle brake. I always thought a moderator would reduce recoil, but not with this moderator it seems. I was told by a guy who manufactures military sniper rifles that at this calibre the moderator works like a jet engine as the volume of gases try to escape. Sounds like a good reason, but whatever the recoil is sharper and given the option I shoot with just the muzzle brake.

Hi
The mod is fitted to Dave Wylde's of Valkyrie rifles 338, he says on his report on the UK Varminting forum that the sound attenuation is akin to a moderated 243 and the felt recoil similar to a 308.
May be worth you looking at his review.

best regards

In what way did he mean? Sounds like a splash of hokum to me: surely any well designed moderator works by controlling the expansion of gases to slow down their exhaust from the muzzle.

Can't tell from the photo whether that mod is all forward of the muzzle or some of it comes back over the barrel but, if the latter, it's not a very big expansion chamber and maybe it doesn't get much chance to slow much gas down very much?
