Re: stray round from a rifle range?
Sometimes there is more to these stories than meets the eye. For example some people don't like having rifles ranges near their home.....
Re: stray round from a rifle range?
This kind of story concerns me more than some one running around with a gun shooting people. If we can not keep it safe on the range then we really are letting ourselves in for a lot of trouble. I wonder if the chap had a safe shooter certificate? If so if the person who signed him off as safe will come under any pressure?
Of course the whole thing could be made up but at the moment I am prepared to believe her story. the chances of getting a fired round that just happens to be the same calibre as the rifle the one person on the range is shooting would be slim ish. It is actually surprising that a responding officer can determine what calibre that bullet was - I certainly could not by just handling the majority of ammunition.
If there are trees in the way then someone needs to do some mathematics and work out if the trajectory is even possible.
Rounds do leave ranges and if it has the range needs to learn why and hopefully be able to show the local constabulary that it has been able to fix the problem, should that be shooter training or physical changes to the range.

Looks like it could be this club, no notice re it being closed, at £30 per annum membership a good little club to be a member of. Looks like the range near this story is a 200 meter one.

Sounds like a thing our national bodies should be involved in helping to sort out.

Looking at google maps  the address for St Austell RPC and the Street shown in the report don't seem to match. It seems they're about 3 miles apart!murphwiz wrote:Video showed a sign for st austell rpc...

take all these things with a pinch of salt where the media are concerned....and dubious reports attributed to the police.
Simple enough to dig a round out of a backstop and then claim it landed near you.

Re: stray round from a rifle range?
I would have expected at least a photograph of the errant round or a concerned person pointing at a hole...
Re: stray round from a rifle range?
That is what I thought, then I remembered that it would haversack been evidence and taken away by the Police,
