SSG 69

#1 Post by Dannywayoflife »

Theres a SSG 69 in my local shop(not seen it yet) and i do like the look of these rifles. But ive looked on google and seen that these rifles do have some issues ie the plastic stock trigger guard and mags. Ive not seen many fixes to these issues do any exist? I have seen a 20 MOA rail which fixes the scope mount issue.
Thanks Danny

Yep, mags are tempremental. The 10 round mags are extremely hard to find, are expensive and are even more tempremental!

The SSG is an outstanding rifle and probably regarded as the first, purpose built sniper rifle. Not one that was adapted from an existing design. However, all depending on the age of it and the caliber, if you need a new barrel, then that's an expensive job! The barrels in the SSG are press fitted and not screwed. Getting the old barrel out is a job and a half, by all accounts.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I no armalon do rebarrel jobs on ssg's I'm more concerned by the plastic stock, trigger guard and mags(not fussed about the 10 rounders). I know McMillan do a stock for the ssg but there mega money!

I have the SSG-04, absolutely no problems with the stock or mag, in fact the 10rng mag is the easiest mag I've ever loaded.

Thanks for the input. Im not keen on the asthetics of the 04 version though. I really love the Tikka T3 but i hate the fact that to get them the way i want i have to change the trigger(i like 2 stage triggers) have to change the bottom metal (dont like plastic ones) and the stock the factory stock is S***. This all adds up to a lot of money and im on a tight budget. I like the style of the ssg and the design of the action i even like the 5 shot rotory mags. But the stock and plastic trigger guard are apparently fragile and do put me off. I could always get a joe west stock made but the trigger guard is a real stummbling block. Ive looked on snipershide and it appears that the US owners are clammering for an aliminium trigger guard but there are non available apparently!..................

A trigger guard is just a lump of aluminium machined to suit, I have part built them for myself in the past so if you get stuck let me know and I may be able to help.

Davey if you made regularly i suspect they would fly out of the door! The guys on snipershide are salivating cos a guy said he was ''looking'' at making one! I'm going to go and view the rifle tomorrow and see what the scope is on it. I susspect that it is a KAHLES are they any good? Im not that up to speed on scopes.
