What Savage was he shooting ?

#1 Post by telshe49 »

Hi to you all
Last sunday the 12th we were at the 1000yd range on Stickledown. My 18 year old grandson had been shooting my AE at Stickledown and noticed a fellow f/tr shooter with a 308 Savage on the next firing point. we went over and got talking to him about it and he offered my grandson the chance to shoot it he gave him 10 rounds of Lap Scenar h/loads. He was amazed what a cracking setup he had and amazed him self by scoring 50.9. He had been getting around 48 ish with my AE. We forgot to ask our new found friend what model it was. He told us it cost 1600 quid and took a year to get. It was scoped with a Leupold 8.bowl 25 scope. It felt very much like his 223 rem SGC fire and similar trigger to his Jewell. He now wants one.
He can pay for this one his self. sign92

It could well be the bog standard Savage Model 12 F Class rifle with Accutrigger, laminate stock and 30" barrel from memory. They shoot superbly straight out of the box.

I agree probably the FTR, the Palma is over £2K

I'm a great fan of Savage rifles and I think they don't enjoy the popularity they deserve. They have legendary "out of the box" accuracy, strong solid action, quick lock time, available after-market triggers/stocks, "do it yourself" barrel changing etc. etc.

I have two F12's and love 'em.

This is my 6.5x284 on Stickledown at 1000yds.

Yep likely the 12 F/TR. mine in 223 needs more accuracy, but only by a smidge.

My 308 which is Savage action and Broughton barrel and is a Sanselm creation, that's just brilliant!!

Thank you all for your replies. My next question is up to firing this rifle on sunday he was very interested in going for a Dolphin Arms rifle in F/TR with a Krieger barrel and Jewell trigger in 308. Now he is very undecided. He has a Krieger barrelled/ jewell triggered SGC which is amazingly accurate with 77/80 grs bergers, Lapua cases/ cci.br primers and N140/Rel 15/ Varget. at 300/500/600/900/1000. although he has to work hard to get in the high 40s at 1000.

Many thanks to you all. especially Ovenpaa for his message regarding S Anselm. Telshe49
