Sounds interesting Chuck, at what distances will you be engaging targets at?

ovenpaa, tomorrow (Saturday) is to 500 yards or so.

These are SMALL targets, so match ammo was a requisite. Aye fine!

So, Day 2, my Sig comes back with a Leupold target scope on it. YAYYYY. Settle down to zero and do range card for 25 - 300 yards..............Many rounds later using federal 55g Steel cased 55g MATCH ammo at $1.00 a bang.......and a group that looked like it was done witrh a 12g was all I could manage...HMMM SUMMAT WRONG HERE!

Now getting seriously frustrated and HOT (100F all day and we were in the shade but trotting back and forward across the range to target check) WTF is wrong here...Everyone else is all set and your truly is shooting like a newbie GRRR. At least Chuck T pointed out I can shoot damn fine, so there is some problem..maybe Sig needs cleaned??

OK So half way through day 2 I switch to Chuck T's Ruger 77 in .223 and custom loaded target rounds...OH goodie, now for some catching up...........25 yards, hmm iffy 3 shot group but we're happy.....out to 100..group still not what I know I can do..OK strange rifle and scope, not mine..keep at it. Move to 200...OH FFS!!! What the hell.....shots everywhere.. Now seriously hacked off, ready to call it a day, no point in shooting when things are not going well...Speak with Chuck, agree to take 30 minutes out..try and figure out the problem....Find a couple of boxes of PMC .223 55grn ammo that I got a while back in the car when rummaging for some drinks....What the hell, it's not match ammo...Think I'll shoot it for comparison.....

Stuff four rounds in the mag and settle down....RESULT!!!!!!!!!!!! A few more rounds and we now have a 200 yard zero........not the best group but it will do for now..Back to 100 and work out drop and comeups.....

SO, my theory of fancy ammo holds true...I'll stick with factory and mil surp fodder thank you very much.

Today, yayyy now we're cooking with gas...200 yard zero is spot on, come ups etc fine..BUT, that was at 8am.......come 12 noon and the zero has shifted by 5 clicks down (1/4MOA scope)....Aw jeezuz, now all info is dud....So, I did it the usual way..GUESSWORK.

Anyone know how to correct the range card when the zero is now 5 clicks DOWN....e.g from 200 zero to 100 I dropped 6 clicks initially....

Afternoon we shot more tactical targets (singles, multiples and "hostages" at 200 and 300, "head shots" and smaller, all against the clock. Scope max power was 9x magnification. " . Managed to clean a few too. late afternoon a nice cross wiond springs up, rounds drift about 6" at 300 yards...I miss my mildot scope.

End of day we got our first test shoot, everything is scored with these courses...100 yards and a "vague" target i.e hard to define hit zones, even with a scope. 10 rounds in total, 5 body, 5 head...scored 90%.......should have skooshed it but it was guesswork. Dropped 2 top shots.

Scope was a Leupold VX something maximum 9 x magnification

Now got 500 rounds surplus match ammo for sale....anyone.... buyer collects LOL.

Fair play to Chuck T though, he delivered a can of 1000 .223 rounds for me to use this morning. Great guy.

A great course, albeit hard work as we are shooting all day. Nice group of 6 students (including one female, 2 military chaps and a US Marshall) all in so virtually one on one training with the Master. Good mix of nationalities: Scottish, Canadian, Puerto Rican and USA

Today I tried my hand at 300m shooting again. It was great to shoot on really good electronic targets. Despite being out of practice and out of shape I was very chuffed to make 594 on a 60 shot course.

Finished an F/TR bipod built an OAL gauge and finished and fitted this which is about as close as I got to shooting. Well apart from speaking to ENS this morning.

AHHHH Day 4 of 5...out on the High Power range a flat plain for 1000+ yard target shooting with about 100 or more firing points..I'll try count tomorrow but I was on point 65......

Tactical precision rifle..shooting a Ruger M77 in .223 at 500 yards......with a 9x scope....

Day starts at 7.30am cloudy but warm..at least no direct sun...car temp says 65F..NICE...One hour later its 75F and humid....drinking water like a fish. Settle down and do first exercise: Two shots on 8" targets at 300 yards against the clock...now the wind picks up a bit...Fine tune zero for elevation, at last....Do a comparison shoot with MATCH Ammo    Hits are all over the place...

Spend 20 minutes listening to Chuck T on wind reading and tactical shooting..this guy knows his stuff..all simple terms and to the point.

Move back to 500 yards.......same 8" targets...YAYYY I hit them..as long as they are in is all that matters, no small group shooting this time...just as well.

Compute come ups from zero to 500 yards.....heat is now oppressive..Chuck T suggests we work through lunch and finish early..agreed. One gallon of water finished already...also half bottle of Gatorade....GREAT! Shooting prone with a gut full of water.....beginning to feel the heat -and then some..as is everyone else..no shade and now around 90F.....

Change of targets, bad guys now....much more fun than circles........wind is more variable now. Target flags at right angles to post but no breeze at the muzzle end....or vice versa...Shoot 3 shot pairs then drive down to check..wish we had markers...

3PM, I am seriously flagging in the heat, it's now 103F and wide open space, sun belting down....Last detail, two targets, two shots each, rep'd 5 times.....Why do people use these wee rifles that hold 4 rounds, what's that all about..Wish I had my AE and a few mags....come to think of it, wish I had a .308 or 30.06!

Wind is moving rounds about 36" right at 500 yards.....hold off and hope for the best...

Tomorrow is 600 yards tactical..should be fun with a .223...but GOD I hate those early rises.....7.15am start!

If there was enough genuine interest I could probably get Chuck T to run a course in the UK.

Chuck.

PS 11.20pm and 93F outside................
