well the OP said he would like some cross platform familiarity, now I don't know, but I've not seen anything in an m4 body, with a traditional bolt handle action stuffed in.Alpha1 wrote:I have to ask what is wrong with a bolt action .223.

Re: Straight pull AR and extraction
They only work as fast as you work the bolt no matter how big the magazine is. But what ever. What ever floats your boat.
I personally would not waste my money.

Being a dutiful sort, we enquired about straight pull ARs on your behalf here at the Tanner Gun Show in Denver. There were lots, and we mean LOTS, gazillions in fact, of specialist makers and dealers offering ARs: full ones, custom ones, uppers, lowers, parts, kits and CAD models.
Do you remember the advert for Smash instant tater ? Where the ikkle aliens fell about laughing ? That was the response we got when we asked about straight pull ARs...

Patriot Ordnance Factory make straight pull rifles, their REVOLT range. Granted they were about £3K, but they were and are, manufactured in the USA.meles meles wrote:Being a dutiful sort, we enquired about straight pull ARs on your behalf here at the Tanner Gun Show in Denver. No but we are about the same age group may be that as something to do with it. The club I belong to bought a Lantac as a club gun we played with it but the novelty soon wore off. It spent 90% of its time in the gun case so we moved it on. We bought a couple of .22 variants but God they are so boring and a chew on so we sold them and bought a couple of interesting guns.Alpha1 wrote:

& can't fit 20/30 round mags.
20-td & 30-rd magazines aren't a problem - though I prefer the 20's

Straight pull AR and extraction
Gosh, you know there's no other kind of rifle that can cause people to become so rude as an AR on this forum.
Please just let people buy and shoot whatever they like, if you see a thread about a rifle you don't like then please allow people the freedom to discuss it without having their thread derailed.

Nothing wrong with a bolt action .223, just don't want one. AR's is like Lego for grown ups, and that in itself is a good enough reason for me to buy another upper. I also have a lot of spare parts already, and want to get really good with one rifle. So to continue on the AR path seems very practical to me.
