£10 per month per firearm for general storage, £5 for ammo or £25 per month for own safe (3 firearms and ammo). I don’t think people realise the responsibility (or the liability if something goes missing) for this, hence the stupidly low fees clubs charge.

The only time I've ever had to do this was with the SGC lever-release debacle so this is quite a few years out of date, but I was charged £2 per week for storage

It doesn't, I know of a number of shooters who have not got safes at home because for whatever reason they don't want to keep firearms at home. Keeping them at the club ensures thy can continue the sport with their own rifle.

The plod are happy that they are secured in a fashion that meets the terms on their FAC. It doesn't say that firearm storage has to be at home.

They still have interviews and assess them face to face usually at their home, but explanation of firearm storage facilities is usually enough, probably because they inspect our armoury and know it's secure.

Thanks again for all the replies. It is certainly painting a picture. Appreciate those who are keeping them coming.

As the man says, it’s pretty common in traditional smallbore clubs for folks to only own one rifle and to keep their rifle, ammunition and other kit at the club permanently. Some of our shooters haven’t made a change to their ticket in 30 years.

£2 per gun per week at my local shop. Free in the clubs safe although I don't know of any members who actually use that facility.

Not some thing I have come across before. Probably due to the fact the bulk of my shooting over the last fifteen years has been on ministry of defence ranges. Except for a brief period of membership of a small bore club the last seven month as a probationer is my only experience with a indoor club. I will have to ask next time I attend may be they offer this facility. I still dont understand how you get round the inpection of your security on renewal or applying for a certificate.
But never mind lets get back to the original thread.

One of the questions they ask on the FAC application form re your proposed security arrangements is:

"are the security arrangements at your home address?"

If you answer No then you have to give them details.

Simples.

Out of interest, where are your club rifles stored?

I hold the clubs firearm certificate I am responsible for them and have to have a secure place to store them.

Our club rents a 10 gun cabinet for members to store rifles in, FLD approved issue of FAC on the basis of that that the guns are pad locked to a wire welded in & the bolt / mech / ammo is in a cash box on the shelf inside. Members pay £20 pa to have 1-2 guns in it. it has a number code padlock only the paid members (& sec) can open it & only members can open the door to the armory.

Works well. Some members use it when staying over to instead of cars!
