nope I suspect they really "don't get it" you are only going to be able to buy one rifle, no one is likely to be daft enough to read that as permission to buy two rifles in said chamberings.
the two cartridges are pretty much the same beast, and .308's will happily digest 7.62x51 making for cheap practice/plinking ammo, of course some 7.62x51 chambers are not as happy with .308, but some are, thats where the owner needs to be on the ball, and that is where the 7.62x51/.308 category is helpful.

Since it is on one line on the FAC I would have thought that would have been clear enough.
