I had various delays with Police Scotland but each time was issued with a Permit to Possess and TVP should have issued you with one.
There is NO get out from this it is a legal requirement.

No, I'm glad you did start the thread, it has been important. Firstly, because it's highlighted that a lot of people are effected by the issue of temporary permits rather that the timely completion of their FAC.

Secondly, the national organisations are not in tune with the vagaries of this type of "licence".

And lastly, particularly if submitting renewals in a Police area that is slow, you need to stock up on consumables that you need your FAC for.

Personally, I did. I am aware of the nuances of s7 and I believe I am right. I stocked up with 8K of primers. 2K in each size I use and filled my cabinet with my max .22 rimfire authority. I'd advise others to do the same, if able to.

My "temporary" s7 permit is actually valid for 1 year....!! What does that tell ya?!

Crikey, I thought mine was bad at six months!

I emailed the senior FEO last night to request some action.

I did stock up on everything before expiry but match primers were hard to find in any quantity and I've been shooting a lot more than I'd expected.

An email to TVP FLD last night pushed my renewal to the top of the heap. The FEO phoned today for a short interview and my FAC should be arriving very soon.

FWIW he also thought I should be able to buy primers on a S7 permit but stressed it was only his opinion.

Glad to hear it is getting sorted..

I trust his opinion will stand up in court on your behalf should he be wrong. IMHO this is the issue, know the law, check and reply accordingly or find another job..

Yes we discussed that and agreed that I didn't want to be a test case.

it's the VCRA act... its on par with buying a black airsoft gun when you don't play. Airsofters still manage to get primers etc.

I would agree with Sim G. An S7 permit only allows you to possess firearms and ammunition but you cannot buy any ammunition or component parts of ammo unless you can show a current Firearms Certificate. You can buy any amount of shotgun ammo by showing a current Shotgun certificate and give it to the wife to carry home! Cap type primers for metallic ammunition are a different ballgame.
