You don't need an FAC to buy "component parts of ammo" except primers, and I still believe that I have interpreted the Acts correctly. However with testing it in court none of us will know who is right. Yet another reason why the Firearms Acts need overhauling.

Why should it be an offence to acquire something I've already got 1,000s of? Hardly in the public interest, is it?

At the time there was a concerted effort to have reloading outlawed. Some wanted primers treated exactly the same as live cartridges and there was even suggestion of making reloading presses and dies subject to s1 requiring variations of acquire and possess! Showing a firearm certificate when buying/acquiring got us off very, very lightly.
