By the same token they should certify waste of space footballers, their clubs and their fans for the police providing a public safety role at their pathetic tribal conflicts.

I can't help wondering if the level of hassle the OP experienced would've been significantly less than had he simply refused to provide the report.... Has anyone actually heard of anyone getting the application/renewal refused because of not paying for a report? I know I haven't.

With regard to the extra 8 weeks the police now have to process your applications (after your certificates expiry date), does anyone know how this works in reality? i.e. can you still use/transport your guns or do you just have to keep them locked up? It's just if seemingly half the shooters out there haven't even heard of this, how many beat bobbies will have? You can just imagine the reaction you get if you're asked to produce your certificate and its days/weeks out of date :squirrel:

I can tell you what would have happened if a Medical Report had not been provided, no guns! Police Scotland appear to be taking exactly the same line as Lincolnshire. No medical report and they would have been knocking on the door on mass to seize my guns and ammunition.

The 8 week thing is utterly new to me, but hear is the rub by the sounds of it that is also the case for most Police forces. So a system that is meant to be uniform for all Police Forces is actually even more chaotic! What I have come to note is Police forces like Police Scotland are leaning on the line in the rules "At the chief constable discretion" to magic up all sorts of new local ways of doing things!

It seems to be the same everywhere. Here in NZ I am hearing stories of applications being returned multiple times due to extremely slight variations in the quality of the photograph (too light, too dark, wrong colour background, etc.). I guess I will find out as my licence is up for renewal in August. Not looking forward to it at all.

Well just dropped my FAC with covering letter at Police HQ in Inverness, according to phone call to Licensing office this morning they should be able to sort it quickly. Ironically the guy in front of me in the queue at reception also had issues with Firearm related paperwork!

I understand that a lot of people wont have that facility and it sort of negates the advange of using a online system. Most people will just print the form off and fill it in then post it.
The thing is editing PDF forms online is not Electronic submission even if you send it via email. It still requires somebody to go through the form and transcribe it to another in the office.

What is needed is something like the DVLA website where you go, click on something you would like to do, fill in a code to confirm and and submit. Everything is then done electronically with a person at the computer screen just confirming via check boxes or radio buttons.

Provide the option to do a paper form and post for the small number of Gun Owners who can't computer and it will save much hassle for all parties involved!

With regard to the online application, the issue accordingly to our FEO when we applied 4 years ago, is that to roll out something nationally requires agreement from every force in the country, and they all use different computer systems..

I admire you optimism when I took on the role of Club Secretary the first thing I did was make it clear that any communication regarding club business will be by email. Club shooting days. Any news and updates. 80% of my members either choose to ignore them or are computer illiterate. I am tired of getting phone calls or getting messages left to ring people back regarding booked shoots etc etc etc. I sent a email asking if everybody had a 2018 safe shooters certificate I have had one reply.

I sat about 10 foot away from the developer trying to fix the NFLMS - one of his complaints was the fact that every force wanted to have pretty much the same conditions as every other force.... but using their own specific wording - so you end up with 43 sets of conditions in an on screen drop down box. I saw the list of available conditions.....it took ages to scroll through and was a complete mess as it wasn't divided force by force but was all lumped together.

You'll never get the forces to agree on any technical solution in a meaningful way, they'll just create a bodge that keeps growing and growing while never getting finished wallhead

Well it is over, the corrected FAC has arrived. Double checked all the serial numbers my details and no mistakes there as well (well except for the three extra moderator slots) so I will declare victory!

I will be off to my friendly RFD to collect my property.
