I was at Kingbury with a muzzle braked rifle in the next lane, distracting, uncomfortable to say the least.

On thee other hand, black powder, smokey, acrid, sets my COPD off a treat but that is my problem.

I'd alternatively suggest, if a shooter has an issue with recoil/muzzle flip.......perhaps airgun or airsoft might be a more appropriate discipline lol

if he is shooting targets with plenty of time between shots (more than 3 seconds) using a heavy rifle then I would agree with you, however I suspect we are talking about a less pedestrian form of the sport ;)

As per usual policy will be dictated by a minority of numpties that use muzzle brakes in an inconsiderate manner, and a handful of whiners who will find any excuse to go crying to big brother. C'est la vie 8-)
I think you missed my point.

I was referring to the shooter who has a rifle with NEITHER. He wants to reduce recoil / muzzle flip. He has a choice of brake or suppressor. No real difference in cost.

If his shooting is mostly at the range then either will do the same job but one will be more sociable !
there's a lot of price difference between a brake and a mod that can take 10 shot strings for any length of time , and that's without the mirage off of a hot mod making shot placement an issue
/\ /\ This. Plus you can 'cook' most moderators that cost muzzle brake money if you are shooting quickly.

Having just got back from standing next to a .50cal with a brake fitted I would say people are making a deal out of nothing.

I know I'm going to get flack for saying that, but it wasn't that bad. I wouldn't want to lie next to them and try and shoot but .50 has got to be a dam sight worse than some 5.56AR with a brake!

If you don't need a muzzle brake to shoot driven boar ( that's real manly man's men stuff :D ) then you definitely don't need one to shoot McQueens. :p :D :D
The big advantage of shooting the McQueen with a muzzle brake is it allows you to see the hit on the target so you can make adjustments if necessary on the following shot.

Aye but then beta blockers would steady for the shot and so on and so on... :D

I'm sure they help but I don't lose sight picture shooting a varmint weight 308 from a bipod without a brake, surely loading the bipod a bit more and keeping cheek weld would achieve the same result?

I forgot to take my mod one day and the brake was on it.i know poi with both.using it for hunting is so different than a mod.you see every shot hit as it doesn't move from the sight picture.i carry tissue to keep scope lenses clean so a tore off some and put some in my ears.do not shoot a brake without hearing protection as it hurts.

I was recently at a match where each relay involved 40 shooters shoulder to shoulder and we had 20 seconds to hit four 1 MOA dots at 100 yards. Dusty, loud, distracting and not a single whine from anyone.
