How many people will just pitch up with them regardless? My AR has one, but it's nowhere as near obnoxious as one on a 300 win mag. That's plain nasty.

I was shooting next to one on the Short Siberia benches last Saturday - really anti-social.

Each to their own but I am not sure I see the point unless weight and balance is an issue.

For general plinking on a range - a suppressor will achieve the same result without the anti-social element.

Sure - if you compete in a dynamic match where weight is an issue or have to run / carry a long distance, a brake might be better but I think a high number of brakes are used on firearms for plinking.

Equally why should someone be forced to buy a £200-500 sound moderator when just standing a little bit further away from people will do?

As per usual policy will be dictated by a minority of numpties that use muzzle brakes in an inconsiderate manner, and a handful of whiners who will find any excuse to go crying to big brother. C'est la vie 8-)

Well I think the numpties remark is well out of order.how does it make you a numtpy....?
I use moderators and muzzle brakes.horses for coarses.personally I can't see the point of using a mod at a range....! troutslapping

As Black stuff said, if you use muzzle brakes without due consideration to other shooters then numptie is as good a word as any for such inconsiderate people.

He didn't say all muzzle brake users were numpties.

for what its worth I have not used a brake, however I have had to endure the complaints of people standing around while someone else did, the poor little darlings seem to think you should be able to stand within 10 ft of a firing line without ear protection, not something I would ever be daft enough to do.
of course I've also heard the snide remarks when my .22 ejected brass in the direction of a neighbour (you would have thought I was wanging half bricks at them :p )

That's what hearing protection is for.

Hearing protection saves you from getting a face full of crap from the firing point?
