Just so happens I have video footage of a VZ 58 MARS rifle in .223 being shot. See link below. From what I understand after discussing with Scott this is thought to be eligible in CSR (Best asking for more info from him at Phoenix though as he will have these rifles there with him)

Here is a link to the video (on my drop box account it does work in Chrome and IE I cant vouch for other browsers).

As for comments and questions about the operation again I would point you in the direction of Scott and CCA. Though I can say that the 59 MARS is not a 58/61 hybrid.

This thread has raised a few questions I might be able to help with. It's not a features list and I hope it's not seen as sales pitch - just to clear things up.
I prefer semi auto, It's better. Having said that, UK firearms law is unique and semi auto rifles are not commonly available to the target shooting community in the UK so....

This rifle uses trigger pressure to release the bolt carrier & bolt. So the rifle action normally rests OPEN.
It's use requires education and familiarity like any firearm.
You close the bolt only when safe to do so as with ANY rifle.
You can apply safety at any time in any action condition.
You can remove the last round hold open function - M16 mag adaptor or not.
You can close the bolt having removed the magazine.
The rifle is not blowback. Even the 9mm is not blowback.
There are two makers of the SaVZ58 action in the world- one has problems with 'hermex' or 'gremlin' effect, the other is CSA.
There are many dimensional changes between the MARS type and all others, including bolt.
I am not a legal professional however it is my understanding that as UK law stands, all other vz58 actions whether rebuilt or re chambered or fitted with a new barrel ( even if rimfire), would have been built with a select fire receiver. Thus subject to Sec 5. Unlike the L1A1 and SVT which start semi auto so you can pretty well forget import of an ex military VZ58 into the UK, it's a pity as many of them are really good condition and excellent value.
The MARS name is a generic - the action is also a lever release.
I hope a few other manufacturers are willing to put the effort and risk into satisfying our tiny UK market, shooters will have an even better choice.

I'd love to know which other types of rifles would be of interest with a similar action or operation and why?

With an AR15 in your repertoire you would have a licence to print money. I'd be quite interested in slightly more classical designs though. If you sold a bren I would mortgage my own mother to buy one. I have a notion how a Sten could be manufactured as trigger-release too.

Lewis gun, BAR, SLR, Garand, because they are guns that I'd like in my collection again and straight pull versions do nothing for me. This double tap system however might just be a compromise far enough for me to want to use it. Seems as close to a semi auto feel as we can get as you don't need to change grip to cock and chamber like a bolt action..

+1 on the AR and Garand. For the same reasons as dromia quoted-as close as we can get to semi-auto and not breaking position.

I've no idea how your system works but do you think you can apply it to any of the above rifles or do you need a certain amount of space in certain places for the mechanism?

Now if you can apply it to the AR and sell it for similar money to the VZ get building - I want one now! bangbang
