Rifle scope what to buy.

#1 Post by Alpha1 »

I have a kahles scope on top of my Steyr SSG I am thinking of treating it to a new scope. I would like to fit the kahles to another rifle.
I shoot it from 100yds out to 600yds. Most of my shooting is up to 300yds due to range limitations. All though I would like to be able to go out to longer distances if I can find a range to do it on.
I am thinking a Leupold or some thing similar budget about £1200 I could may be stretch to £1500 at the moment I just want suggestions on a suitable scope.
Any ideas.

Have a look at the Sightron SIIIs - very nice scopes, good glass (given that they are not European!) and very keen prices.

Save yourself some cash so how about this?

A friend has one with the Mil Dot reticle rather than the V Dot. It's very, very good! I've also purchased a Mil Dot version too!

From what I understand there are some V Dot's still available in the UK.

Nightforce 3.5-15 would be perfect for this application and it is 1400 pounds on xmas sale here with some free binos thrown in.

Very happy with my Sightron SIII 8-32, picked it up in the US for £500, a saving of around £300 on UK prices.

Macleods of Tain

KAHLES K418MZ 4.5-18X50 RET MIL-1 £1,035.00 (EX DEMO )
SCHMIDT & BENDER 3-12X50 MILDOT £1,195.00
ZEISS VICTORY 3-12X56 RET 4 £1,218.00
SWAROVSKI Z6 2-12X50, TDS PLEX £1,359.00
SWAROVSKI Z5 5-25X52 RET BRX £1,419.00
SCHMIDT & BENDER 4-16X50 VARMINT £1,219.00
NIGHTFORCE 5.5-22X56 NXS RET MOAR £1,445.00
NIGHTFORCE 8-32X56 NP2-DD £1,050.00
NIGHTFORCE NXS 3.5-15X50 NP-R2 £1,175.00

Personally i'd opt for the Kahles. Don't forget that you'll likely need a picatinney rail or the lens housing will foul the barrell. Stear clear of the Ramus version.

The IOR 3x18 will spank any of the nightforces for clarity. That I can assure you. They are very under rated scopes
