For Sandgroper

#1 Post by Mike357 »

I saw the attached image on a FB feed a subscribe to. They take aerial photos of the north of Scotland and thisone caught my eye. I have looked on Google Earth for this range in Spey Bay but can't see anything. DO you know of the range and is it MOD and in use? Connect to RAF Kinloss?

Ah, didn't look far enough from the river.

I've been there! When I was visiting my son who was working at RAF Lossiemouth.
There are other butts in the dunes going towards the river mouth - now in disrepair

As far as I know it's still in use and is a MOD range.

We never used it when I was at Lossie (err early 90s) - Wonder if Iain has used it?

According to Google Maps there's a B&B in the hamlet to the east of the range. Bit far out the way, mind.

I'll ask around and double check. My mate has contacts in 2622 Squadron, if anyone will be using it it'll be them! I'm pretty sure that Speyside full bore rifle club used that range, but I don't know anyone in it or if it's still going.
