Third Eye Tactical Spartan Moderator
Does anyone have any experience of this moderator ? I'm looking at the end-barrel mount for a .308
On the surface, it looks lighter than most, a fraction thicker than some but that's not a problem given I use a high scope and it is a lot shorter, arguably cheaper than many comparables and easy to strip.
I'm curious to hear what you think though ?
Any others that I should be looking at ?

OneLessCharlie in Innovators makes moderators.
I know nothing about the Spartan.

Re: Third Eye Tactical Spartan Moderator
Looks fantastic and is very well engineered - however it isn't that great at moderating the sound. I was very surprised as its very impressive to hold and especially strip, but my old T8 is quieter. I tried one for my 308.
Lastly, it can be a pain to get an order processed if they're busy. The business mainly makes parts for rally cars, with shooting stuff during quiet times and the CAM machines are not used in batch runs. One guy is responsible for taking shooting stuff orders but if he's away or busy, you need to keep phoning back.
Can't deny the beauty and fine tolerances of their products though. Just surprised my clunky old T8 is quieter.

I think they will be at the shooting show so might pick one up if they have them in stock so hopefully that avoids the ordering issue you mention.
I'm not surprised to hear that the T8 is quieter.
1. The design of the T8 means it fits back over the barrel like a sleeve which produces a snug fit to the rear of the barrel end (vs a direct thread suppressor which is the version i am looking st not their overbarrel). Fire enough rounds and the expansion rate on the moderator can lead it to touching the barrel, particularly a problem if you are using a hunting / light weight barrel. There are complaints out there that the T8 rubs quite badly on some barrels. For hunting though it sounds a good choice.
2. It is 0.5 inches thicker than most out there so slightly more noise dampening.
3. It has 8 baffles vs 5 for the Third eye. That makes a big difference to noise too.
Thanks for pointing put the noise differential, it is something for me to think about.

I have one on a 308 Blaser LRS.........it's not as quiet as the .223 version, but the ingenious design means it also reduces the recoil considerably, which allows 'er indoors to shoot it without bruising and contusions...............
IMHO well worth the money.

Re: Third Eye Tactical Spartan Moderator
My experience of trying to deal with brown eye tactical tells me that I will never use them ever again for anything.
Re: Third Eye Tactical Spartan Moderator
I think the issue of noise reduction lies with internal capacity. The Third Eye Mod, the ASE Northstar and the Atec Maxim are all quite slim moderators with reduced internal capacity compared to the traditional T8.
I've had a look at the Third Eye Tactical mod, and it was really well put together, but as has been said naturally, not one of the quietest out there.
