Safari calibres.......

#1 Post by Sim G »

Just a quick one.....

Have a read of the latest G&A and there's an article in there about ".416's" and as happens, my mind took to wandering...

Anyone here got a "Safari Caliber"? Anything in .375 H&H or above, for nothing more than sh1ts and giggles? A nice Win 70 or CZ500 or even a double rifle?!!

Can you imagine how many impulse purchases there would be if it wasn't for the FAC system....?!!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

A guy at our club has a 375 Cz , quite a nice bit of kit !

I run a 45/120 on BP but I guess that doesn't count?

I certainly think about buying one every time I go to the Holts auction. Not only are there usually some fairly mint big-bore rifles available in the sealed bid, but quite often some of the old Kynoch ammunition goes for a fairly low bid as well. If Holts had a remotely reasonable commission fee, I'd probably have one by now...

Not exactly a safari calibre but I have a 9.3x74r Chapuis double express rifle which is an absolute pleasure to own and shoot. My certificate is conditioned for deer and fox with this rifle though to be honest I would not normally grab this rifle purely for fox but if I should encounter one when stalking that's another matter.

I'd be skint in no time if it weren't for the FAC system. Saw a youtube video some time ago featuring a bunch of people in an indoor range shooting a .600 Nitro Express (?)........ it knocked them on their arse one by one, but they were all smiling

Nice to try something like a .600NE once or twice and to have if you really need it but it's not really practical for regular use. For me it's about regular use and enjoyment of my firearms and the 9.3 allows that, plus it has a certain element of style and class about it.
