Which .308 cartridge?
I'm hoping to have the stock back for my Remington 700 soon (this isn't a hint GunDoc, don't worry) and as soon as it's put back together, I plan to get off for my first full bore day.
Obviously I need some metal things to fling down the barrel though! Long term I plan to reload but while I'm getting started I want a good set of factory rounds that I can rely on to do their jobs while I learn how to do mine. I'll be shooting out from 100 to 200 yrds to start. What would people recommend please (and where from? I'm based nearish Bisley)

Re: Which .308 cartridge?
ggg is cheap surplus and made 2014 so probably the best surplus you can get otherwise the hornaday tap uses the Amax bullet so you cant go wrong or just get there match ammo
Re: Which .308 cartridge?
At 200yds most factory ammo will be good enough for the job. GGG, as sold by the NRA, is military spec rather than military surplus. Works alright for me, with the occasional flyer - maybe 1 in 100 rounds?
Re: Which .308 cartridge?
Hornady TAP is significantly better than GGG in my rifle, worlds apart.

I'm not sure GGG is "cheap" surplus, I was quoted £59x100 by ammozone at Bisley! MEN is as far as I know still £45x100 at ITL shooting and is fine out to 600.Jackmanuk wrote:ggg is cheap surplus and made 2014 so probably the best surplus you can get otherwise the hornaday tap uses the Amax bullet so you cant go wrong or just get there match ammo

and so it should be at the price!HALODIN wrote:Hornady TAP is significantly better than GGG in my rifle, worlds apart.

Re: Which .308 cartridge?
For 100 - 200 yards, MEN at 45 quid / 100 would be just fine. Once you start getting serious about putting holes in targets at longer ranges, THEN you should look at the more expensive options (unless of course, you have money to burn).
