Vortex PST 6-24 x 50 FFP Issue

#1 Post by Zilberbak »

Does anyone have this scope and have issues with the vertical subtensions as I seem to have to constantly adjust the diopter ring to remove the zig-zag effect? I have it mounted on a .308 Remmy 700 and whilst the general accuracy is pretty good I am wondering if the recoil is knocking the diopter adjustment out of kilter or is it just aging eye syndrome. I can adjust it to get it zig-zag free and in theory that should be it but in every shooting session I end up having to adjust it back every half dozen to dozen rounds.

I have discussed with the supplier and they are willing to invoke the life time guarantee, but just wondered if its me or the scope?

Hi Zilberbak, I have two of these scopes and have used them on .223, .308 and 6.5x47 Lapua with no occurrence of the problem you're talking about. Once I've set the diopters I've not had to change them and I have an astigmatism and wear contact lenses. What do you mean by "zig zag"effect? I'm not sure I've heard this before.

Do you wear glasses by any chance? The positioning of your glasses can have an effect on the diopter sights of course. If not, then get in touch with Vortex as it could be possible the scope is defective. I'm assuming this is a new scope not used correct?

I have had scope from new and would say that it is only that last 6 months(ish) I have had the problem. The zig-zag as I call it is on the vertical subtensions that run along the main horizontal of the crosshair the part of the subtension above the crosshair is staggered to the part that is below the crosshair. I do wear glasses for reading but have always relied on the diopter for adjusting the recticle focus. You have me thinking now that I might adjust the diopter to neutral and try using my glasses to focus the recticle although the focal length might be a problem. The scope is brilliant otherwise and the other thought is set the diopter and mark it to see if their is a physical shift of the ring after shooting a few rounds.

I would contact Vortex directly. Their customer support is excellent and when I let them know that I was not in the US so sending it back was a ball-ache they gave me the method to fix the issue with the assurance that if anything went wrong they would happily replace.

Thanks all for your replies l have set the diopter so that the reticle is sharp and marked the ring position. Will try a few rounds through it next week and see if there is any shift in the ring position. If l still get an issue will pursue changing out the scope. Luckily a friend as just bought the same scope so will have an opportunity to compare to his.

I had an issue with my HSLR 6-24 x50 (ffp) it would shift focus after every shot needing the side wheel to moved through its entire range to effectively re-set the parallax adjustment. A quick call to Vortex UK and the scope was replaced inside of a week Bentley is indeed a top chap!
I still have the scope on my Tikka CTR and would recommend them to anyone
