So I picked up a new toy...

#1 Post by TattooedGun »

Well, me and the girlfriend have been trying to buy a house for the past few months, and last week it all fell through.

As you can imagine, much disappointment and bewilderment.

Everyone kept telling me how "everything happens for a reason".... Needless to say an AI AT in .308 came up the same week for a good price, and without having to fork out the deposit in the next week or so, I thought why not blow it!

The girlfriend now loves me, but I went down to Somerset to pick up the new rifle :)

I know, not the best quality photo in the world!

Anyways, I'm now toiling over what to stick on top of it. When i went to pick it up the guy had a 5x25 S&B on top and it was absolutely stunning, however he wouldn't part with it, now I don't really have the cash to buy one I'm thinking I might be able to squirrel away about £1k to be able to shoot it sometime this year. Baring in mind, I need to get mounts too.

What would you go with?

I would like to go mil/mil FFP, which really doesn't leave me with much choice.

Cheap end:
Falcon Optics

Mid:
Vortex PST

Top End of budget:
Bushnell Elite Tactical

I must say I'm really tempted by the Bushnell as I have 2 elites already (1 on rimfire, 1 on rem 700 ~223) and I like the quality.

Have I missed something obvious on what i could get?

Thoughts?

Only an S&B will truly do the job on an AI however it does not have to be the 5-25, I regularly shoot 1000 plus with an AI with a 4-16 PMII and it goes where it is supposed to on paper. I also shoot Rabbits with the same rifle and 'scope at a third of a mile.

Haha, find me a 4-16 PMII + Mount for under £1k and I'll stick it on my rifle!! :p

Obviously I'd love an S&B on it, but funds truly do not stretch to it at the mo, unless you know of one going cheap! :D

Hmm... just wondering if we would part with a Kahles K312 for that sort of money....

Very nice! Now convert it to something 6.5mm and you'll have a "better" rifle lol

Optics wise, if you can't get a second hand S&B I would reccomend looking at IOR scopes. They have excellent quality glass and have a 30 warranty. Their reticle are slightly on the thicker side at high mag but seeing as you're interested in FFP my guess is that you aren't too concerned about this.

The Vortex's come with Lifetime warranty and my dad has used the bushnell to great results on his Remington VLS tattooed gun. Hope that helps.

I was going to enquire about that same rifle but on the same day the one in the pic came up at a good price so jumped on it. I wanted a folding stock so its easier to carry on my motorbike. lovely rifles it'll certainly put a smile on your face.

I've got a steiner military 5-25x56 with an MSR ret it feels bombproof but is pricey like the S&B. The bipod looks great, I've got the same one on order with Breacher.
