First one seems contradictory to what they say elsewhere.

Another "national" organisation taking money from gun owners and letting them down as fast as they can, for all their slick publicity they seem not to be willing to stem the tide of creeping gun restrictions and barriers to shooting that are invasively effecting us.

On the contrary Dromia. If you have been following the debate you will see that charges are being demanded by doctors which were not in the agreement that the BMA signed up to. The whole business is a mess as some police forces have misunderstood the process or have decided to misunderstand the process and many doctors are unwilling to participate.

I'm still wondering about the point that Christel was trying to make.

Hmm, there definitely is confusion about the fees situation with doctors then. This is taken straight from the Surrey Firearms police website;

"What happens if I disclose a serious medical or mental health condition?
Firearms Licensing will request you obtain a report from your GP or Mental Health team in respect of the medical or mental health condition to assist in the decision to grant or renew your certificate. You will be liable for any fees incurred."

That's the relevant section, apparently some police forces have been asking for medical reports for every grant or renewal despite no medical condition being declared. Also there have been some reports of doctors asking for payment for reports that have not been requested.

No point, just posting the content of the email I was sent by BASC.

But stupid advising people not to pay a fee when if you don't pay it you won't get a report and therefore you won't get a cert.

BASC is advising not pay in regards to the initial letter from the Police to the GP. The BMA, because of this, is advising GPs to inform the Police that they are unable to as requested without payment. Additionally, according to BASC and the HO guidance if nothing is heard after 21 days it is to be assumed there is no medical issues.

Not really, if you read the procedure you will see that a failure of the doctor to respond within a set time period will be read as no concerns and the certificate should be issued. If you have any problems with your issuing police force over this then as per normal you should consult your shooting organisation.

It certainly contradicts what the BMA seems to think that bloody basc are doing as discussed in this thread.

As for keeping up, life is just too short to get too entwined in this pathetic, ad hoc, serving no purpose, rules just so that few people can be seen to making world a safer place, not, by persecuting law abiding gun owners.
