GMP and FAC Grants

#1 Post by pbrazendale »

Hi, just wondered if anyone on here had any experience of dealing with Greater Manchester Police when applying for a FAC?

I will applying shortly and I know forces can differ greatly across the country, just wanted to get an understanding of what to expect.

Thanks in advance.

They don't tend to differ much in the process as thats set down in law - what differs is their response time! Mine was five weeks in Derbyshire but you could wait over a year in Essex.

Our dilsexia kicked in for a moment then when we (mis)read the title of the post and assumed someone was bragging about being granted authority for a GPMG. We turned green with envy...

Authority for a GPMG would be exciting, but sadly not :-(

Renewals are slow, initial grants are not at the speed that they once were. My first took 2 weeks, my renewal 5 months.

I am with GMP; I also agree with BamBam.

First FAC, was informed that I had asked for too much and had to lose one of my slots, was advised to add blackpowder (which I didn't since it doesn't interest me), i.e. get the slot back. The FAC didn't take that long 4 years ago, my SGC renewal this year was 5 / 6 months; FAC renewal next year (I have already filled in all the forms, just waiting for the reminder).

GMP were under scrutiny a while ago due to some questionable grants, and this led to long delays while several 1000 FAC's were looked at a bit more closely. This slowed everything down to a crawl, but the situation may be a lot better now.

GMP are back on track now, I've just had a variation approved in 4 days! Gotta wait for paperwork back but had email to confirm its approved. They're pretty good in reality & my first FAC & SGC I asked for & got:

3 X .22lr + 1500 rounds
3 X .22lr moderators
1 X Section 1 shotgun & slug
1 X .308/7.62 + 600 rounds
1 X .308/7.62 moderator

Just added:

2 X .22lr LBP
3 X Section 1 shotguns
1 X .223/5.56 + 300 rounds
1 X .223/5.56 moderator

Good luck with it & my advice, ask for what you want & believe you have justification for & the worst that will happen is they'll say no!
