Chassis for Rem 700 varmint in 223?

#1 Post by JoeM »

I have just bought the above new toy and want to put it in a new stock/chassis for target use. My budget is up to £700 and had been looking at the MDT LSS-XL but have been put off by reports of poor supply and spares issues. This leaves me looking at the AI-AT system at maximum budget but are there any equivalent/cheaper systems I also need to look at before deciding?
Any help would be appreciated and there will be many suggestions but I am currently suffering from internet burnout having spent days looking so have come to the experts who have personal experience of these things.
Thanks in advance.

AICS for the traditional look? They are no longer produced new however they do show up used quite often.

Would prefer something "military" looking. Which was not made anymore.....MDT or AI AT?

I can say that we don't have any issues with regular supply direct from MDT, usually 7-10 days door to door. As mentioned the Magpul Hunter 700 Chassis is also popular, well within budget and readily available.

Mods, please let me know if this post is acceptable or not.

If it's an AICS you are looking for I, providing that my stock replacement is acceptable, I may have a side folding AICS 2.0 (thumbhole) going into the "For Sale Section" in the next month or so. I cannot send you any messages due to your post count and you don't currently have access to the For Sale Section yet so I think this post is the only way you will have visibility

FYI; my selling price would be within your budget.

If you don't want to consider the AICS, then there are other systems out there. Look at March Scopes' website for the KRG X-Ray. This chassis is around £500 and can take AI magazines without any additional work. I have one of these on my Tikka T3 but they also come inletted for Remington 700 small actions, such as for a .223. For the price, I think the X-Ray is a nice chassis but it is quite light. There is a limbsaver butt pad already fitted and you can adjust the cheek piece height for different scopes. The T3 version fits in via a V-block so doesn't (or at least mine didn't) bedding for good accuracy. My rifle is capable of ~0.5 MOA with handloads. For me, it's a nice chassis system that doesn't compromise accuracy.

majordisorder.......I am confused. I spoke with the dealer listed on the MDT site who told me they no longer deal with MDT due to poor spares and customer service. You tell me different. They also advised I go for the AI AT instead and am now being told that's not being made anymore.

WelshShooter.......Thanks for the offer but not too keen on the look of the thumbhole version of the AI. Just had a look at the KRG X-ray and that could be a contender.

Still like the look of the MDT LSS-XL with Magpul PRS best at the moment though........If I can get hold of it!!

I think possibly you misunderstood Ovenpaas' comment with regard to the AICS being discontinued. He is referring to the old style AW stock with the thumb hole, not the newer AI/AT with the pistol grip.

Dave Wylde up at Valkerie Rifles has the AT in stock I believe, no idea of costs. http://www.valkyrierifles.net/
