FAC Renewal inspection - Safe Storage

My first FAC/SGC renewal is due this month (how 5 years has flown by) and the FEO is due imminently to do the home inspection.

One question I have - is it reasonable to store just the barrels of an o/u in the safe? Safe room is at a premium and obviously the Section 1 items have taken priority.

Any points of view?

The receiver/breech of the shotgun constitutes a pressure bearing part, best get it locked away.

I've heard it said that the barrels are the parts that don't need to be locked away but I'd guess that a FEO may not look too kindly on that.....

The component parts of a shotgun are not considered to be a shotgun under the firearm act.

Everything now expertly squeezed into the safe. Inspection is today and I'll ask the FEO the question and post back.

Its surprising how inventive you can be when needs must! My 'completely full' cabinet needed space for another gun and by hanging a shotgun and a LBP on the back of the door and shifting a spare receiver from the floor of the safe to the accessory shelf I easily made the space for the new rifle (scoped with a proper pistol grip so it takes up a LOT of space) and have space left over for another similar rifle or 2 normal shotguns!

of course you could just use a cable to lock the shotgun to a solid wall in a cupboard out of sight of the public, better if you can get it in the cabinet (I am seriuosly investigating how to refit my old cabinet as my existing one is officially full!

I think I might have to get inventive on storage and look at hanging onto the rear of the door as has been suggested. Thank you.

Typically (!) forgot to ask about breaking down and storage of shotguns - sorry. Was asked how many units a week I drank though.
