Re: NEW URGENT SAFETY BAN
Is military ammunition available to the general public (or rather to FAC holders?)?

No, current British military ammunition is not sold to the British public.Rockhopper wrote:Is military ammunition available to the general public (or rather to FAC holders?)?
In the past(way back) it has been.

Yes, firing points are awash with GGG, RUAG, RG, FNB, LC, MEN etc all NATO stamped.Rockhopper wrote:Is military ammunition available to the general public (or rather to FAC holders?)?

However RG is for the most unseen these days, not helped by RG flatly refusing to sell into the civilian market.DanTheMan wrote:Yes, firing points are awash with GGG, RUAG, RG, FNB, LC, MEN etc all NATO stamped.Rockhopper wrote:Is military ammunition available to the general public (or rather to FAC holders?)?
Re: NEW URGENT SAFETY BAN
Yes, around 10 or so years ago BAe RORG told the trade it had decided it would no longer take any non-government orders and simply stopped supplying the civilian market. So, the only way any relatively recent manufacture RG product, as in that in the banned lot, could end up in civilian shooters' hands would be surplus ammunition sold at the end of its storage life which is in the 10 to 15 years range depending on the army involved. Post end of the cold war, western armies have rarely if ever had any such surplus as with much reduced inventories, (and budgets!), they aim to use everything up before it reaches the disposal date.
Re: NEW URGENT SAFETY BAN
I've heard troops complain that they only access the range once a year to meet their military annual training test requirement.
It does seem a terrible waste if the British army are grinding down ammunition when it could be used to improve people's ability with a rifle.

Civilian shooters at ranges like G and F Range at Sennybridge probably shoot more rounds on an average range day than the military do!DL. wrote:I've heard troops complain that they only access the range once a year to meet their military annual training test requirement.
