I hauled the SR M1911 out at 25m today and yes I know I can throw stones further however my interest was technique as much as anything. These are my second and third groups top to bottom, same aiming point for each and I was not shooting with a sling so all my own work so to speak. Each group was slow and deliberate and there are 10 shots per group and it was a cold day with no wind as such.
What went wrong here? It looks like I was shooting two different rifles which I was not. This is post cataract operation so super vision at long distance but even more blurred than before close up.
Also can anyone point me in the direction of an after market rear sight that does not require any modification to the receiver or stock, the rifle will not be used for competitions so only me against myself however I would like to get it to maybe 600m when the weather warms up.

I got some from a guy in Switzerland , I'll try and find the details but he's the man when it comes to getting bits for the S-R , also got me a spare mag.

it Doesn't look like there are any non gunsmith rear sights for the G11, there are diopters for the K31 but not the earlier models, you could drill/tap a diopter on, but that might not be what you are after, did the sun come out/go in between groups?
heres a couple of links to look at.

the second one might be the answer

You might need a set of shooting glasses made up if you are going to carry on shooting iron sights after the cataract op. I have a pair I had made and they definitely make a difference to sight picture. My underlever has a peep sight on the rear I shoot loads better with the glasses. I can not shoot a rifle with buckhorn sights with out them. Might be worth a try. I would shoot a few more groups before you start changing things.

I always wear bi-focal safety glasses at the range these days and am intrigued by the idea of the Eyepal so I headed off to find more on it and spotted this on YT which seems like a handy way of testing the concept before ordering the Eyepal.
My right eye had deteriorated quite badly during the run-up to my operation and I found that my making a fist with my right hand and peering through the tiny gap in he middle I could see things at distance so much more clearly and this must work on the same principle.

I can recommend EyePal, it definitely sharpens the sight picture.Ovenpaa wrote:I always wear bi-focal safety glasses at the range these days and am intrigued by the idea of the Eyepal so I headed off to find more on it and spotted this on YT which seems like a handy way of testing the concept before ordering the Eyepal.
