Transport of ammunition by a carrier

#1 Post by ukrifleman »

Does anyone know of a cost effective (and legal) way to transport a small amount of ammunition.

I wish to send a small batch to the Birmingham Proof House for testing.

My local full time RFD/Gunsmith says his carrier charges £74-00! (He didn't say who)

Why does it have to go to the proof house for testing.

Because I want to know definitively what pressures it produces.

It will almost certainly be cheaper for you to transport yourself

PF does not carry ammo.

There is only one who does from memory and pretty sure you need to be an RFD to use them/have an account.

That is a palletised service and it is the only one I can think of and last time I checked it was around GBP40.00 +VAT as a starting point. I did hear of a second courier last year however they would only transport to hubs so you would need to collect at the nearest which simply will not happen with the Birmingham Proof House.

I do agree in that it is probably easier to deliver by hand or find an RFD that walks rifles into the Proof House and is prepared to take the ammunition for test.
