Liverpool's loss is Manchester's gain.
So the Liverpool City Council vetoed the British Shooting Show Liverpool at event city, which The BSS subsequently announced would be held in Manchester instead.
How much money have Liverpool lost out on?

The rabid idiots that run Liverpool council won't think about the loss of income - they'll just think what a wonderful job they did in preventing the blood-thirsty gun-nuts from soiling their City.

They don't care, its not coming out of their pockets.

It's £5 mil in hospitality trade the city businesses would have made from the event occurring there, not an actual loss in squandered council money.ordnance wrote:They don't care, its not coming out of their pockets.

And unless they are in the hospitality trade, they don't care.RDC wrote:It's £5 mil in hospitality trade the city businesses would have made from the event occurring there, not an actual loss in squandered council money.ordnance wrote:They don't care, its not coming out of their pockets.

But the hospitality trades lost revenue is lost votes for them. And votes they do care about. They are, of course, too stubborn to admit that though and will still claim they made the right call!RDC wrote:It's £5 mil in hospitality trade the city businesses would have made from the event occurring there, not an actual loss in squandered council money.ordnance wrote:They don't care, its not coming out of their pockets.

they will gain votes from the people who believe they have "made a stand" they will lose some votes from those that lost out,but in all honesty the number is not likely to be large as the average employee will not be aware that they have been made redundant/put on short time because of this, the companies will just find other contracts to cover the shortfall.Pippin89 wrote:But the hospitality trades lost revenue is lost votes for them. the only way to bring home the loss would be a media campaign showing the loss and gain, and who believes the media is interested in that ?

Do we need another "British Shooting Show"? Pretty soon they will be like arms fairs - one every weekend somewhere in the country, with the only winners being the organisers.

As the Council is the only shareholder in the exhibition centre , they will have lost income .RDC wrote:It's £5 mil in hospitality trade the city businesses would have made from the event occurring there, not an actual loss in squandered council money.ordnance wrote:They don't care, its not coming out of their pockets.
This comment is interesting ............"the show would not feature any trophy-hunting exhibitors and that this stipulation had been built into contracts."
So contracts existed , but had they been signed . If they had been signed the BSS could sue for breach of contract .
If they hadnt been signed , I wonder why not . What sort of a businessman promotes a show when he has no certainty of having the site to hold the show on ?
Unless of course the whole thing was just a spoiler and now he is backed into a corner and has to incorporate fishing to try and make the whole thing viable.
