Medical Firearm verification - BASC
https://basc.org.uk/providing-a-solutio ... ification/
Available to BASC members only and no indication of cost.
The worst bit is that they have rolled over and accepted that FAC holder shoot foot the public safety requirement bill. Well done BASC shafted us yet again!!

Re: Medical Firearm verification - BASC
It looks to me like BASC is suggesting that a member whose GP is not "recognised" and refuses to assist should give the police details of a BASC identified GP with whom he's not actually registered..........
Good luck with that.................or have I missed something?

The only solution to the medical problem is that someone takes the local police forces that are insisting on this nonsense to court and ask the judge where does it say in law that firearms holders have to adhere to this.
Another question to the judge - why are we - the certificate holders - required to pay for the medical when it is not us who "benefits".

I suspect you have missed that our details are all on a computer system and the info can be gained by anyone with access.Pete wrote:

Same way as if I moved house just before renewal that the new doctors wouldn't 'know' me.

The current FAC form asks for the contact details of the GP practice you're registered with.
So if you give a different one, are you not making a false declaration?
If you have a private GP, I don't suppose you'll be too fussed about the cost of a letter............

If your surgery has already added the 'firearms marker' to your record (I was under the apparently mistaken opinion that this was in fact now mandatory), then there is no need for a report (other than as a money making exercise of course
). You tick a box on the form to give police access to your information so if they or the GP was worried about you it would be reported/found out with ease.

Re: Medical Firearm verification - BASC
My Understanding from reading the article is you provide your registered GP practice details as per the requirement.
Where the BASC system comes into play is if your GP refuses to play ball with the police and the Police insist on a medical certificate then BASC will put you in touch with a GP who will access your digital records and issue a report to the police.
Nothing wrong with that as far as I can see.
I've been with my GP surgery for 4 years and I've not seen the same GP twice in that time.
My GP is part of a chain of surgeries in my area so when the police send the request to the GP it could be one of 20 GP's who could access my records and send the info to the police.

So you are quiet happy for us as a community to pay for a public safety requirement but football supporters, for instance, don't?

Precisely, and don't forget the millions that it costs the Met to police the Notting Hill carnival every year. Estimate at in excess of £6m annually..dromia wrote:So you are quiet happy for us as a community to pay for a public safety requirement but football supporters, for instance, don't?
